5月20日，一群老人自驾穿越四川石九线（雅安市石棉县至甘孜州九龙县）。石九线全长200余公里，是高山穿越路线，核心穿越路段地形复杂，为非铺装道路 ，海拔从2000米攀升至4750米，全程手机无信号。
当车辆翻越雪山，行至垭口处（海拔近4800米）时，突然发生侧翻，6人被困。中午12点多，洪坝乡接到求助电话，乡党委书记立即组织10名群干进山救援。
下午6时左右，自驾女子小小开着房车从石棉上山，操作无人机摄影时，发现前方越野车侧翻，4名老人（3女1男）在寒风中瑟瑟发抖。小小忙将老人接上自己的车，递上氧气瓶和食物。经5个多小时，将4人安全送到九龙县城。而在这之前，另外2名伤者已被其他路过车辆送下山，但其中1人因伤势严重不幸去世。当晚，九龙县官媒发布公告，石九线全路段封闭管理。
